Student Reflections - Animation #19

L. M.

9th Grade
Animation

Animation was a very fun class to take and experience. This class was about the art of animating and when it told about what animation was like back then and what it is now. My knowledge on animation wasn’t vast so I took the class in order to learn more about the class. I was able to extend my knowledge of animation immensely. It taught me the 12 Principles of Animation: Squash & Stretch, Anticipation, Staging, Straight Ahead & Pose to Pose, Follow Through & Overlapping Action, Slow In & Slow Out, Arcs, Secondary Action, Timing, Exaggeration, Solid Drawing, and Appeal. I had a lot of fun interacting with the people around me. I made new friends while I was taking the class.

My favorite assignment was the Bouncing Ball assignment. I really liked how it looked after it was finished. It really helped me understand the fundamentals of making an object appear as if it’s bouncing. It was very fun to animate and watch it as it bounces. This is why it is my favorite assignment.

If I could choose anything I had trouble with I would say it would have to be the smoothness of the animation. I noticed in my animating that it lacked smoothness and had a sort of “rough” look to it. It bothered me very much so but, I could never seem to be able to fix it. I also had a problem with the drawings. I would always make a drawing too big or small.

In conclusion to these paragraphs I really enjoyed animation as a whole. It has expanded my knowledge of animation, introduced me to new people, and taught me about the history of animation. I would most definitely recommend this class for people who would like to take animation but, are not certain if it will satisfy them. Animation isn’t hard to learn nor uninteresting to not take. This is definitely an area i want to be associated with.Screen Shot 2016-05-19 at 2.45.47 PM.png

Animation Is about creating images frame by frame until it shows at least a image moving. I've already knew how to make animations, the only thing i've never knew how to do was cooperate with others to make a single project animation. Working with others in animation is pretty dang good than working alone creating an animation. It's good to work in groups because you can hear other people's opinions  about what you created, and you can hear everyone else's ideas to talk out and use for your animations.

So far this is one of my favorite assignments, because it took me at least a few minutes and hours creating this little animation. It was confusing and i made errors in it but until i was almost done with it, i left out the horn. So after i realized it, I edited every frame of Twi-Spar and then the horn in every frame moved. I liked it because it was unique, weird, impossible, unreal, art style, and the way it was animated.

This was at least not my best work i've created, there is at least a lot of ways why it wasn't the best. I have an external camera for my computer, it wasn't a drag at all only problem was the position it kept on moving in. Also once i got done i had a problem with imovie, it kept on deleting it and kept changing the settings for the movie. But somehow my computer deleted Imovie so i used an alternative for movie making, Windows movie maker, much more easier and convenient than using imovie.

This is one out of my good works i've never showed, it consists of 4 images. It shows an character blinking with a plain face, like it is trying to say “whatever”. It didn't take me forever to create this image, i didn't use a drawing pad. Instead I used the basic instrument for the computer, the mouse pad. It was not even hard to create, it only took 5 minutes, i couldn't find a program to make gif images so i used a free one online. It was the easiest image i've ever created.

Video Game Design I

Video game design is a class where you create every aspect of the game. From the visuals to the UI, every bit of the games will be created by you with help from the tutorials. You may do the tutorials once or twice but they didn’t really stick with me so I ended up doing the same few things over and over so that I could remember how to accomplish the certain things I want. Coding in Gamemaker was probably the hardest thing for me to learn. Sure I would have done things the same way the tutorial did but I never really learned how to do things. Once I started to understand how things came together and would work simultaneously to make on thing all of it got easier.

Screen Shot 2016-05-13 at 2.46.01 PM.png

Unity 3D was my favorite game engine to work with. I could add something and see something that was more than a flat screen. I could create and mold things the way I wanted to. After learning how a lot of the mechanics work and seeing what they do visually, creating the game became increasingly easier. Eventually it just seemed to be common sense to add certain scripts or manipulate objects the way I needed to.

Screen Shot 2016-05-13 at 11.08.06 AM.png

This work was at the top as my best work. Though I feel that way, there were a lot of things that could have been adjusted to make the game better. I had enemies that would phase through certain walls and come through to the other side and then they would come back again just to repeat the error. This wasn't because of the game’s scripts but because of the level design. I had overlapped two blocks of the same kind and the enemies wouldn’t read it as the one wall that they were supposed to turn around at when they reached it.

Video Game Design is a great class if you want to be able to work independently work on and create your own game. If you find yourself being good at or liking one part of creating the game, such as character design, then you can maybe go into a group or maybe even a larger company. Focusing on that one piece of the game yet you still get some credit and paid. Designing a game is quite time consuming with all the creating and then testing with seeing the errors and then going back to try and fix them just to play the game again to see if it worked. There is money to be made out of making games and can be made a lifestyle if chosen. Though it is extremely time consuming, stressful and is not recommended. If you are willing to be patient enough and you are actually good with creating games then go for it.

Student Reflections - Comic Art #7

Name: M. M.
Grade level: 9th
Class: Mrs. Bachuss

This class was about drawing and filling the whole board up what i learned was it’s not very easy to draw when i first came in comic art i thought it was gonna be real easy it’s not hard it’s just very difficult and it takes a lot of time after all i did enjoy comic art. I didn’t think i was gonna enjoy it was much as i planned because this was my first time ever drawing in a while and i didn’t think i did as good.

File_000.jpeg
This is my favorite assignment ever that i’ve did, i enjoyed making it even though i had help on the face it took time but not as much as you can see this is a very unique drawing. I like this the best because i think this is one of my favorite best drawing I’ve did even though it’s not all perfect it’s just right i really enjoyed making this drawing!

This drawing i feel like i could have done 100% better i honestly messed up i could have done better on the face and the body and at that i forgot we wasn’t suppose to add any text! I could have done better on the color. Actually i could have really done better on it all i am really disappointed on how i drew this i had trouble with drawing the body and trying to make the face perfect it didn’t turn out the way i wanted it to be.

I think other students should take this class because they will enjoy it and like it it’s not easy but after a while you will get use to it i enjoyed making my art even though i didn’t do good on them you’ll probably love comic art. You will get a lot out of comic art trust me you learn things you never knew you would learn you, explore lots of things you go on trips watch movies on how to do some things it’s just great i think everyone should take comic art if i enjoyed it i’m pretty sure you will also.

Student Reflections - Animation #17

R. A.9th grade
Animation

What I’ve learned in animation, is the fundamentals of the 12 principles of animation and its aspects. The 12 principles of animation helped me do good in animation. I’ve learn about ‘Squash and Stretch, Anticipation, Staging, Straight Ahead and Post to Pose animation, and much more. Learning the walk cycle helped the most of all the animation, considering we use it every time we do a project. Without it I probably might be having trouble. Doing projects helped me improve my animation better and greater.
Screenshot (1).png

My best assignment I had ever done was the Running Cycle. At first it was hard but after a couple of hours improving the run I got use to it. That I made a lot of animations of stick figures running and jumping and kicking. I had fun making the Running Cycle even though it was kinda hard and didn’t look that good. But all that matter is that improving and practicing the stick figures can make the animation a lot more easier and more detailed figured with the perfect fundamentals, then not improving and practicing he stick figures and making the animation crappy and not that good.

Screenshot (4).png

My favorite assignments in animation was the Walk Cycle where I had to create a stick figure walking in certain movements. At first it was a bit tricky but i got use to it that after I complete that assignment, I decided to do more stick figures making different movements. I made one stick figure walking and jumping simultaneously that at the end I made a kick. I had a lot more fun making the stick figure animation. It really helped me improved animation.

Screenshot (2).png

One of the worst assignments I had ever done was the Zombie Walk Cycle. It was kinda out of area when I was making the movements. I decided that I put one leg walking forward and the other dragging it. When I tested it, it didn’t look that good to me so I decided to improve, but it was alright I guess when I improved it. It was kinda tricky at first but I got use to it. It’s not that hard if you use certain movements and detail to make the animation look more interesting.

Screenshot (3).png
The reason why you should take animation is because it will be required for the future if you’re taking a specific job that has to do animating or showing detail to certain movements of movie making. You will enjoy animation that you might join Animation II. It’s a lot more fun then just sitting around doing nothing, then working on amazing animations that people might like. I guarantee you, you might become a famous animator if you work hard and try your best to improve and practice animating. It will change your life forever.

Student Reflections - Ceramics & Crafts #10

photo1.jpg

The Class is Ceramics, It is about creating Crafting and Art. I learned a lot being in this class, it showed me and i learned how to create the items i never knew how to make and things i always thought i could never do. I never knew how to make a dreamcatcher, pillow, tile, basket, or pinchpot. I never knew what some of those are, i've always thought it was just factory created. Up above is a tile that i've made, it's pretty much the best work i've made this year, i just wish i've made it a little bit darker instead lighter.

photo2.jpg

The Pillow is so far my favorite assignment, reason why is because i sat in class for 2 weeks working on it. While I was in the progress of making it I ran into some problems and complications
Making it. It was fun making it and fixing the errors I made while I was making the pillow. I liked it once i finished it, only problem is I wanted it to be like a normal sized pillow instead of half. But I know i will do this again someday, hopefully.

photo3.jpg

The pot wasn't my best I made during this school year because I ran into some Complications while creating it. The Reasons are because I made it uneven, some of it's parts was dry due to my hands absorbing the water in the clay. I kept on getting the legs uneven with each other, and at least 2 of the legs wouldn't stay on because i never even applied it on right. But it came out ok after it got fired in the kelm, but next time i will try to work harder and better so i can improve my skill in Crafting items.

photo4.jpg

There is a reason why other students should take this class. Because If they took this class, they will love it and they can create anything once they completed their work. It'll also allow them to share their creative potential, and the things we created this year, they will do better. Also, everything that is done in ceramics they can do later on in the future so they can create this stuff out of resources found. They will learn how to do a lot of stuff that they will be able to get money off of.

Student Reflections - Ceramics & Crafts #9

Q. G.
Grade:  10
Ceramics & Crafts I

This class was about how to make handmade crafts and i thought it was a great learning experience . I learned how to sew a pillow evenly . I thought this project came in handy for the people who didn’t know how to sew ( including me ) . This project was great just sitting in class an helping eachother . As I get older Hope to still know how to make a pillow for my own good.

The pinch pot was my favorite one because I love to deal with clay. I like making the pinch pot because it gives you a start at how to use the clay . I think my finishing product ( pinch pot ) turned out okay , could’ve done better. I just like the feel of the clay on my hands . I liked the pinch pot first because it’s round and it’s like a bowl and I can use it for decorations.

I had trouble with the 3 footed sticks that attaches the top part . I could’ve slip and scored a little better . I am not happy with it because the 3 footed sticks are not attached. I think my craftsmanship was good I just rushed a little on the glazing part . I think the color turned out to be perfectly fine.

I think other students should take this class because they can learn alot . The students could learn how to make alot of material things that can help them in there lifetime . The students can get alot out of this class only if they choose to. Alot of stuff that I took from this class can help them in the long run. The material things that we made we can use as gifts to give to people . I really Enjoyed your class this semester and I hope your future students can learn alot from it.
